ASSESSMENTS

Assessments are conducted to identify your child's strengths and examine how we can best support your child moving forward.

Assessments usually take place over
one-to-two sessions.

During the assessment you will be asked questions about your child (such as the activities they enjoy and their medical history). Assessments typically include a range of activities and are designed to identify strengths and areas that may need further support.

All assessment sessions at Michelle Brown Speech Pathology include a written summary report and feedback session.

INTERVENTION/SUPPORTS

Once we have identified your child's strengths and areas that require further support, from the assessment, we can create a plan together to best meet the needs of you and your child.

The first step is to set goals. We want you and your child to get the most out of therapy and to have a clear understanding of what we are doing, why, and how.

Intervention/support can be offered in a range of settings and styles. We will let you know what the evidence recommends is best practice, and support you with making the decision of how therapy will work best for your child and your family.

CONSULTATION

It takes a village to support a child and evidence shows that therapy is most effective when we all work together to

achieve a common goal.

Consultations can be in-person, on the phone, or even online. You can request consultations for various family members, your child's teachers, early childhood educators, other allied health professionals (such as occupational therapists or physiotherapists), and medical professionals (such as a paediatrician or a GP).

Before we consult with anyone regarding your child, we will ask you to complete a consent form, and confirm what you are happy for us to discuss, and also provide options for you to be part of the consultation. We are working as a team to support your child and we want families to be included in every step.
